My life right now is about reflecting before I move forward again.
I have been scanning the last 13 years of my work, and it has been very time consuming.
Digitally archiving everything that is in my opinion some of my best works. So far I have scanned about 1000 images but only saved about half of them about 28 gigs of files. I am about half way though, maybe less. I forgot about many of the shoots and have been surprised by how much I like the images still, some even more now than before.
Before I left Milan to live in Hamburg I destroyed thousands and thousands of negatives only keeping the best of the best. I do not regret this choice at all as I spent weeks going though all of my negatives with a fine tooth comb and only destroyed those images that I felt nothing for.
When I moved back to Canada I bought a really great scanner ( Epson V700 ) and I am really taking my time with the scans and the quality is truly amazing , I still have some CD's with high res dedicated film scans from some of the best labs in Europe and quality in some cases is better from the flatbed Epson. Weird but true, of course they are almost all 6x7 negs so that helps. The reason I did not get a dedicated film scanner and bought a flatbed is because of all the magazine jobs I did and some large format work , I need to archive these as well. I have also redone my website which I will launch in the new year.
I will include many of these newly rediscovered images on there in a new section of the site. I still have to retouch all final images after I scan them, phew...., so much to do.
I am enjoying myself , the technical aspect of pulling the most from the neg from the scanning is boring no doubt, but at the same time quite exciting. I still have many thousands of negatives from before I moved to Europe that I will have to archive digitally as well at some point. I can't wait to share with you these images that have never been digitized before.
