I have a project coming up and the client wanted something a little retro so I had to do a film test before the job and here is the results of one of the test rolls. Basically it is doing it old school, most photographers rely on Photoshop to fix the skin of the models , but before there was Photoshop there was more B&W and it was and still is easy to have beautiful skin without retouching the image. I have not done this in about 15 years , but it is quite easy, you use filters in this case I used dark red and pushed the film 2 stops. the film is Neopan 400 pushed to 1600 processed in D76 stock. I wanted the grain even though you do not really see it here it is there . The red filter smooths out skin tones and makes them creamy, very nice and flattering. It also makes light eyes go dark like in this case she has light blue eyes, but it adds to the effect I feels as the eyes pop out more. Makeup is tricky , you can not use red makeup as it just disappears , it is better to use browns or even better black and grays and white. The only problem might be the model will see the make up and think it is ugly because they do not understand why you did that. So if you have a model with bad skin try shooting with a red filter with B&W film, they will love you for it.
Lighting is just one 2K tungsten bounced off the wall behind the model and two reflectors in front of the model , one on each side.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
